7.18 FIRE WATCH

Fire watch present and understand their responsibilities.

• Must stay at least 30 minutes after hot work concludes

• Trained to use extinguisher, water pump, and other equipment in area to extinguish fire

• Knows where closest alarm is located

• Has no other duties while acting as fire watch

The supervisor shall furnish and assign a trained fire watch equipped with at least a 10A 60B:C or greater rated fire extinguisher.

(1) The supervisor shall instruct the fire watch on the responsibilities of his/her assignment and specifically on what to do in the event of a fire or fire related injury.

(2) The fire watch shall continue to monitor the area in which he/she has been assigned to watch for fire for the duration stipulated on the Hot Work Permit following the completion of the hot work activity.

(3) A fire watch shall have no other duties other than fire watch.
