LONE WORKER ACTIVITIES

Workers conducting the following activities shall only do so when they can be visually seen and heard by at least one other worker. If the other worker(s) is/are not on the lone worker’s crew, the pre-task plan must identify who will be within sight and earshot of the lone worker. The identified person must be conducting a joint activity with the lone worker.


  1. Activities where a Personal Fall Arrest System is required

  2. Activities where work is being performed on elevated decks/floors or a temporary means of access/egress is required.

  3. Activities in a trench 4-feet or greater in depth

  4. Activities entering a permit or a non-permit required confined space

  5. Activities conducting live electrical work of any voltage

  6. Activities using a respirator for any reason

  7. Activities conducting demolition work

  8. Activities working on or around the project outside normal hours

  9. Activities that require operating earth or material handling equipment (e.g., forklifts, skid-steers, backhoes, scrapers, graders) where at least one of these conditions exist:

    • Operation is in remote areas on the project

    • Operation is in a remote yard

    • Operation poses a risk of other workers or the public being struck by the equipment.

  10. Activities involving the maintenance or repair of mobile or fixed equipment (e.g., MEWPs, man/material hoists, forklifts, skid-steers, back-hoes, scrapers, graders) where there is a potential for the release of stored energy (e.g., electrical, hydraulic, gravity)
